Military Information:
The Division reviews each military renewal by mail request on an
individual basis.
The following criteria MUST be met before
we can issue a military renewal license by mail:
- Must have an image (picture) on file
- Must have a valid driver
status...license not expired over 1 year
- Must have a Social Security Number (or
Individual Taxpayer ID number - if applicable) on file
- Must have a NC verifiable residence
address
We can renew a military license 2
consecutive times via mail and you can renew up to 1 year in advance.
There are several circumstances that
prohibit the Division from issuing a license by mail -
- Unable to renew a commercial license (CDL)
via mail
- Unable to upgrade from Level 3 to
original via mail
- Unable to downgrade from a CDL to a
classified "C" unless the classified "C" on the
driver record has not expired beyond one year
- Unable to change the name via mail
