Online License renewal

United States Citizens only: Just use the Express Lane. Driver license renewals can also be done by phone or by mail. If eligible to renew by mail, you will be sent a renewal application about 45 days before your birthday. Just return the application along with the appropriate fee in the enclosed envelope. An extension sticker or new license will be sent to you. As part of the "motor-voter" process you can complete an on-line voter registration application for an initial registration in your county of residence or make changes (i.e.,address change) to your current registration.

Non-United States Citizens: You must apply in person at a driver license office and present proof of legal presence.

Out of state renewal

You have a number of options. You can renew online. You may also contact our Customer Service Center at (850) 922-9000 or by e-mail before your birthday. A 90-day temporary permit will be mailed to you along with renewal instructions. As part of the "motor-voter" process you can complete an on-line voter registration application for an initial registration in your county of residence or make changes (i.e.,address change) to your current registration.

Iin the military stationed outside of Florida and license is about to expire

You can request an extension of your license by writing:

Requests can also be processed by calling (850) 922-9000 or by e-mail. You will receive an extension card that will keep your license (classes D and E only) valid until 90 days after your discharge from military service. Please keep the card with your license and present it with your military ID. The card is free of charge and available to all active duty members of the armed forces and their dependents (spouses, children, and step-children under 21 living in the same household).

License is stolen/lost

United States Citizen or Immigrant: If you are in Florida, you must go to your local driver license office and apply for a duplicate driver license. The fee is $10 and you must present two forms of identification. The fee will be waived for a stolen license if a police report has been filed. Please have a copy of the report with you when applying for the duplicate license. (NOTE: Proof of citizenship or legal presence may be required for renewal, duplicate or replacement licenses. Please come prepared to present an identification document as proof of citizenship or legal presence.)

If you are temporarily out-of-state, you can receive a 90-day temporary permit. To request a permit, please write to:

You must return to Florida to be issued a duplicate driver license. There is no fee for the permit.

If you are in Florida, you must go to your local driver license office and apply for a duplicate driver license. The fee is $10 and you must present proof of legal presence. Military personnel

Stationed outside of Florida may apply for a duplicate license through the mail. Please contact our Customer Service Center at (850) 922-9000 or by e-mail. A 90-day temporary permit will be mailed to you along with duplicate license instructions.

Name Changes Due to Marriage or Divorce


Driver License

United States Citizen:

A name change may be handled at any driver license office by presenting an original or certified marriage certificate or court order, the incorrect license and paying the $10 fee. A new license will be issued which could also include an address change. (NOTE: Proof of citizenship or legal presence may be required for renewal, duplicate or replacement licenses. Please come prepared to present an identification document as proof of citizenship or legal presence.)

 
Non-United States Citizen:
 
A name change may be handled at any driver license office by presenting proof of legal presence, proof of legal name change, the incorrect license and paying the $10 fee. A new license will be issued which could also include an address change. Your name must be changed on your INS document before you can change your name on your driver license.
