Fort Lewis is located 10 miles south of Tacoma,
Washington and is located on Puget Sound. Due to the
Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommendations of 2005, Fort
Lewis and McChord Air Force Base merged to form Joint Base Lewis-McChord
(JBLM). JBLM is a training and mobilization center for all services. It
is the home to I Corps and 62d Airlift Wing. The population between both
bases includes 39,500 active duty, 52,000 family members, 13,000
civilians and 31,500 retirees. |
